- What is “YNAB”?
- YNAB (pronounced why-nab) – short for “You Need a Budget” – is a both a money management method and a software tool to help people gain clarity about their finances. YNAB’s subscription cost is not included with my coaching, but there is a free 34-day trial.
- I’d like help with my budget. How does that work?
- There are two options: Budget setup and single sessions. If you are new to YNAB/budgeting, I’d recommend a budget setup where you will receive info to prepare, two hours of guided sessions to create a YNAB budget, and online support for two months. Single sessions are aimed at helping troubleshoot YNAB concerns, answer specific questions about budgeting or personal finance, and as an add-on for anyone with a membership or coaching package needing additional support.
- I need help, but I don’t have extra money to spend.
- I understand that it’s hard to decide to pay for budget coaching when you may feel your money is out of control. Please feel free to email me to discuss your financial situation in more detail.
- Is this really worth paying for if the reason I need help is because I’m struggling with managing my money?
- This experience will completely change the way you view your finances. According to YNAB data, on average, the new budgeter saves $600 in the first two months and more than $6,000 in the first year using YNAB. This will be an investment that will have an excellent return throughout your life. It’s like hiring a personal trainer to get fit, or a therapist to help with your mental health… I’m your personal coach for your money.
- How many clients do you work with?
- I am limiting the number of new clients I take on because I also teach full time and am a full-time parent to two elementary-aged kiddos. I prefer to deliver exceptional guidance to a few people rather than average service to many.
- What is financial therapy?
- According to the Financial Therapy Association, financial therapy is “a process informed by both therapeutic and financial competencies that helps people think, feel, communicate, and behave differently with money to improve overall well-being through evidence-based practices and interventions.” By using this lens, we will also discuss the emotional side of money, since personal finance is more than just math.
- Why should I work with you in particular?
- This is a topic I have been passionate about for most of my adult life and my interest continues to grow. I am always learning through educational programs, conferences, and keeping up with current discussions in the field. I focus my coaching on listening and helping clients grow their confidence.
- Are you a financial advisor? Do you try to sell me anything?
- I am not a financial advisor and do not sell any investments, insurance, or other products. I encourage clients to use YNAB, but it is not required to work with me. My coaching is based on my education and experience. I offer my opinions and perspective, but will not give specific financial advice.
- How will we meet?
- If you are local to the St. Louis metro area, we can discuss meeting in person. Otherwise, we will utilize Zoom or phone calls. The membership option is completely online, but you can choose to add single sessions.
- I am a mental health professional with clients who really need help alleviating financial stress. What services do you offer?
- We can chat and come up with a plan that will help. With my education in financial therapy, I am sensitive to how managing money stress goes beyond sticking to a budget. I am ready to help your clients face the concerns that may be causing anxiety and fear about money.
- I work at a college and want to develop a financial wellness program for our students. How can you help?
- I have worked with students as a college professor for almost two decades and am familiar with the need for solid financial wellness for students. Students get a free one-year YNAB subscription – learn more here. I can help your students make the most of their free subscriptions and can create a plan that works with your institution’s goals and budget.
- I work at a business or non-profit and we want to help our clients with their financial stresses. Can you create a plan that meets our needs?
- Yes! Each organization has clients with unique situations. Please reach out so we can discuss how I can help you serve your clients. YNAB has a program designed to help non-profits as well – learn more here.
- Do you work for YNAB?
- No, I am not an YNAB employee. YNAB is an amazing company! I was lucky to be trained by the YNAB rockstars Erin and Dave with YNAB founder Jesse Mecham joining us for a class session.
- Disclaimer: I am a YNAB Certified Budgeting Coach, which means that I have been trained to coach people on using YNAB software and the YNAB budgeting method. I have met select requirements of You Need a Budget LLC in order to receive this certification, which means that I have the ability to competently coach YNAB to others. I am not an employee of YNAB, and all non-YNAB related opinions and recommendations are my own. My views do not reflect the views of YNAB and its employees or its affiliates.
